FUNEKAti AT PiLMERSTON SOUPH. PER PRE<S ASSOCIATION. DUNEDIK, August 9. The fnneral of tbe late Sir John McKenzie was the largest everts en io th'i distiict. The cortege wis over a mile in length, and comprised about 75 vth : cle% 40 horsemen, and 600 purple on foot. Thi procession traypwed seven miles from Heithfie'd, th<» residence of t*e McKenzie f 'inily, to tho Paimerston South where the interment took phre. i The coffin was borne from the to the hoaree by the Hons. R, J, Seldon, Wm. Hall-Jones W. 0. Walker,! T. Y. Duncan, J. Oirroll, and C. H. Mil's, who performed the similar office from the hens-) to the gravn-side. The procession, headed by the South- j land and Dunedin Pipe Lards, movfd off at a 6low pacs, the pipers playing j lameots. After about a mile had b'.en travelled, the pipers were accommodated in drags, but when within a 1 couple of miles of the cemetery they, resumed the march, and played dirges to the cemetery. j R*vs. Clark and Nicc.il conducted j ths Presbyterian service at tin grave- j side, the scane bnng a most impressivd one. j Representative men Wfre present from all par's of the colony, mo3t of the public bodusin the southern pirts of the Island being strongly represented, and thera was also a good muster of 1 legislators. j
