Percy Smith, late SurveyorGeneral, araivei to-day from New Plymouth, and siTs this week in the Government schconerCountesi of Ranfurly for the Smth Bea Islands. He goes to Raratonga to see Colonel G idgton, British Resident, and then, acting nnder the Colonel's instructions, Itoes to Niue, where he is to remain for a couple of months or se in order to inaugurate a new system of Government. On arriving at Nine, Mr Percy Smith will present to the King of Tonga, on behalf of the Governor, a go'd medil from the Dnke of Cornwall, mmimar to thdse oresentrd to the high chiefs of New Zealand and tbeCosk Islands. Mr Percy Smith expects to get back to New Zealand in abeut four month time. Mr Colebrook, of H.M. Custom staff, leaves by the Government schooner Connttss of Ranfurley for the South Sea Islands on business in connection with the establishment ef Customs duties in the British owned island at which the schooner calls.
