The number of resistertd insane persons in the colony on 31st December last was 2672-1581 males and 1091 females. Thi« number represents an increase of 115 as compared with that of the preceding year. One hundred and fifty-seven cases of poultry, containing 2606 birds, have just been railed from Port; Chalmers to Lyttelton for shipment to South Africa. This chipment has bo«n put through at the Dunedin Dapot, and is probably the biggest qwantity yet seat from any one centre of the colony.
