DEPUTATION TO THK MINISTRY. ?Ett PBEBB ASSOCIATION. Wnuutranw, July 30. A deputation wpwsenting the Marlborough Riilway and Lund Letgue waited upon Mr Neddon, Sir Joeeph Ware, and Hons. Hall-Jooes and Dub can to-night to urge the p'osecut'oa ot the Blenheiro-Waipara line, and tin t eoesatfy for closer settlement of the land. It was recognised that the line could not be pushed oa while the F*axbourne es'ate was locked up, and the deptita'ion asked that the Gov mme-it would take prompt s'epg to acquire the •state, and to facilitate consttuotion of the lire. Mr Sec Won, in replying, mid at answer to the deputation could not b given ofihand. To t»ke possession of such a large e-tate as Flaxbourne ' pened up the large question of finance. Thoy must consider what was to bethf limit of expenditure of borrowed monej for public works. Already one and n half millions wasiequired, and line im provemen's half a million, and a like amount for land purchases. Wi'.h tha (expenditure in view, ii was just about time that the position was fairly facod. To announce a borrowing polioy at th present time woald be prejudicial t the colony's finicce.
