Mr. Harknois proj | sideand there was a crowded attend|ance of all intoe-'t'd in dairying 3 ! m<itt»rs, some 250 being present. . | The Chairman, in his opening rei marks, ixd'ea ed that ths present conference wa« unique in thi history 'of dairyitiir, and th i discus nns upon " the snbjecs brought up for considera--9 tion, together with the exhibition, 1 would bo of groat educstional value to C *ll. ■ During the day papers were r#ad on T the following su^jec's:—" " tion," " Oheese-making," " Olaanliasss ■ in Factories," "Eosilage and Silos," 1 " Labour aspects as relating to the I Dairy Indus'ry," and "Poultry for 7 Expert." The various papers were • k»e«ly criticised, and Mr. Kinsella's 1 paper on "Ensilage" was froaly dis 1 cussed by many prosmt. There can • j be no question that this conference is ■jtha moit suec«s<ful one of the kind f held in New Z inland. 1 In the evening the National Diiry 9 Atsociation was entertained by the - loTal Agricultural Society at .a smoko 1 concert, which proved an enjoysblo 9 funo'-.ion. The spetchrs were good, - especially given by the president • in to th» tout of th* I "Nation*! Dairy Association," and 9 also thit of Mr. T. H dmei in prapotfeg f t v e " Dairying and Farwiin? Interests." D The Agricu'tural Department was well represented by, Me srs. Ritchie, Kirk, Hyde, Kinselli, and several membsrs 9 of the dairy staff. i The mretingj so far have strongly II improved the c'tizans ef Palmarstos ' with ths impo tancs and influence of 0 the Diiry As<ociation, and thoy have already taken steps to ask it to ; hav9 ths annual meeting of 1902 in ths : gim« centra again. Wellington is also - putting in a daim to have the meeting > there, but it can hardly be regarded as a dairying centra. To-day (Friday) the conference r«B sussed at 10 a.m., under the presidency 9 nf Mr. T. Yiting. After a paper was B read on "Pig Breeding and Feeding" the meeting adjournnd until 7 p.m. in s cons qunnceof a'lout 100d>irymen and j visitors hwiag gone by train to Woo } ville to inspect the North Itland Bicon , Oompany's establishment, on the invi--3 tation of the managing dirtotors. It is hoped that the business of the con- , f"ronro will be eoncludtd this evening. t There is likely, however, to bo a warm 9 tim« for simeona for interference with , the day's p-oee dingp. Tbe Dairy ( Commissioner is espscitlly annoyed , with the action of those respsnsihlo for , issuing tbe invitations. A mistake p was made in copying a resolution pissed , it the annual mooting of the sss>oiaI, tion on Wednesday. It shiuld r«ad a* foi'ows:—" That the Minister for j Railways be app'oached with a view ; to securing a reduction on the freight on dairy sal'', so that th* same may be 1 carried at the same rate as is now ohsrgud on silt for bncon factories." I The financial rssults of the exhibi- . tion will b-* a loss to the association, , though the exhibitors of dairy appli- ! ances have all done good business in effecting S 'les. i
