The Council met at 2.30 p.m. In reply to a question by Colenel Pitt whether he would introduce legishtion this session to suppress oigarette ; smoking by youth* under 17, tho Minister for Education stated that Great Goddess nicotine could protect i herself against youthful votaries If they did not uso pure tobacco and while condemning cigarette smoking ho would not ioclude all forms of tobacco. The Hon. H. Feldwick moved the congratulations cf the Council to tho Speaker (Sir H. Miller), Hons. Walker, McKenzie and Cidman, on tho honours conferred on them, referring at length i to the Speaker's 36 years' membership of the Couocil, the Hon. W. C. Walker's tact and judgment in leading the Council and the ministerial service of other tuo gentlemen. Hon. W. D. Baillie seconded, and the motion was carried uaanimously. The Speaker and the Hon. W. C. Walker replied. Tbe appointment of Chairman of Committees was again postponed. Tho ■ Hon. W. C. Walker, in moving the second reading of the Hospital Nurse'# Registration Bill said tbe object was to give our nurse* the status i f professional perfection. Hon. Jenkinson suggested that in regard to the qualifying conditions for registration amendment was needed to protect calonially trained nurses. The second reading eras agreed toon the voices.
