About 500 respond d and rvev 3.000 hymos in all were suggested. It ws>s a heavy task to record the voling, and reach the result. The two highest on the list had 446 and th=» two next had 445. The lecturer expessed his astonishment to find "Piaise Ye the Lord, 't : s pood to Raise," "TakemyLife andlet i" Be,"and a few o her univei s illy be'oved hymns not in. In the 500 favourites, 416 wpre in the presjLt hymn hook of the Wrsleyan Church, 199 of thorn were hymns written by Ji.hn Wes'ey or his brother Charles, atid 145werj in" Hjinns Ancient and Modern," Ah churchts sang Uih snue hymns to a very large extent, ■it d this was one of the most beautiful features of Christian psalmody. Newman's "Lead Kind'y Light," Miss Havergale, "Tike my Life and let i be " and Bonar's " I Le<rd "the Voice of Jesus say," and " I lsy my sins tin Jesiss," etc,, were amongst the 'B4 hyoins which the popular vo'e would include in a new hymn book for the Methodist Churches. Some humours of the voting were men'imed and several favourite hymns to well-known tunes were rendered on tho organ) by Mr. Harold White. The evening's rnu-ic was a greit treat, and the subject was most interestingly aud instructive y dealt with. M'urh pleasute wj.s yielded by the handing iu of lists of the four favourite hym> s of several present, and the more inasmuch as the looal taste coincided' " ib the pieforetca of the recei't plebiscite so far as to mention nearly a dozen hymns of tha 25 which stood first in ■ha voting. The collection was devoted to the Building Fund.
