A shocking accident occurred at the waterwoiks excavations at Nibotupu shortly b.fore ten this morning, by which two men named Hugh Fulton and Williim Smythe lost their lives. Th« accident pUco on No. 12 contract, at which che two deceased were nod three men named Evan*, Rosier, and Pai k«r, were working. Evans saw a fall of earth and rocks bury Fulton and Smyihe atd at once went iu to Waikomiti to send the news. Ful'.on, who is a married man with -■eveo children, was contractor for the section, and oimi from Kaukapakapa. Smythe, who was 19 years cf age cam* from Nihotupu. All the men available were at once s> tto work to recover the hodies, which were unearthed about 4 p.m. under about 200 tons of debris. Life was, of cour«e, extinct. At the inquest on the body of Mm. O'Dowd, Dr. Lowe stated that he had attended the deoeased. She staUd that an operation had been performed on her <n the previous day by Dr. Wilkini, & post mortem showed that the ornint were parfectly healthy, apart From blood poisoning, whiok was the cause of death. Later. The Inquest concerning the dtath of Mrs. o'Do*d has bean adjjoined tilt July Ist, io order te allaw Mr.Reei, Counsel for Dr. Wilkin*, to proceed with the volunteers to Ohristobureh, Some of the jury are indignant at the j delay.
