RAILWAY TRAFFIC.
I'he New Zealand Times is advocating that the steps being taken at New Plymouth for the protfc'ien and comfort of travellers be taken at all stations, at any rate during the overcrowding expected during the itoyal visit-. Our contemperaiy says " It seems n*ces«ary to impress upon the railway autboritits the advisableiaess of adoptiig special measures in the interests of the travelling public during the next week. Oaing to the crowds of people allowed on the railway plat ferms at the time of tho i.rrival and departure of trains, the t'iering fraternity <»joy ex raordinaiy facilities fjr the ex rcisi of their calling. The other evenii.g a gentleman arriving in We'lington from the country had a 'arge sum of money abstr*ctei from his pocket while -lo king after his luggage, and owing to the crowd that was pre»?nt, it is »xtr*mo!y improbable that a clue wi'l ba obtained to the pilferer. It would be well if the officials of the Government and tho Manawatu R always would take steps to exclude all parsons who are not
travelling from the platforms. Tbi» would not only be a safeguard to passengers, but would also facilitate the work of the railway officials,"
