OBITUARY.
A very old and respected resident o f Tattraimaka, Mr James Pearce, was removed by death on Sa'ur.'ay, June Ist. He was born in the parish of I Egloskerry, on tho borders of Cornwall, i i February, 1811, and consequently at , the iim* of his death he was iuhis 91s*year." The deceived pen'leoaan wa* married in 1840, and in March, 1841, he, with bis young wife, left England : for New Zeal iml in the ship Amelia i.Thompson,.arriving at ISTew Plymouth on the following Fep'embfr. Tfe first foik'up land at Mangaorika, which he subsequently had to abandon on account of trouble with the natives. Lite Mr Pdiirca -was always a hardworking, upright and industrious man, and of very active habits ; and i ofcwitbstanding his great age ho was able to within a week of his deith to work ia the garden, as was bis u<;ual custom, and do othor light: w rk. He had a very roGentivs memory, aud herotaiued his inti'lltictual faculties unimpaired till the liiet. He l«avs a, grown-up family of ooe son and five daughters io mou>n their Joss, viz., Mis K. W. F reinau, of Mdijak, Lira W, R>wo of N-nmanby, Mrs W. Audwws of Okato, Mrs W. S.linon, Mrs W, Foreman, nnd Mr John Pearre of Tataraimaka. funeral took place on Monday at the Tataraimaka cemetery, and was v->ry ve-'y largely attended. Several resid.inss of New Plymouth were present, ii.cluditig Mr E, Okey, Mr W. Bis'ett a-\d dii'gher, Mr Wilkie. Tbe funeral service was ivud by Rev. S. P Serpeil wbo also gave a short address at the grave. After the singing of a hymn, prayer was offered by Mr Bis6et!i. An "In Memoriam " service will bo held ia the Tataraimaka Weslyn Church on Sunday, Juno 9th. at 2,30, by Kev, S, J, Serpsll.
