Sleepers to be all heart-wood, free from large knots, stakes, asd other defects; hewn true in shape, and out of winding; to be sawn square at ends; to be cut from large trees (no honeycombed or burnt timber will be accepted); to be blacked as directed, and to be approved and passed by the Railway | Inspector, ■ ' Sleepers will be inspected in the bush if so iequired by the supplier*, but no Inspec-1 tor will be sent to pass a less number than j 250. On receiving notice of sleepers being ready for inspection, the District Engineer will 6end aa Inspector to pass and brand them After the sleepers have been branded and inspected the supplier must delivar them at tha railway station or siding at which he offered to supply; after such delivery has been made the Inspector will give the supplier his certificate, and for such as have passed inspection' payment will be made wit>iin fourteen days, or as near aa may be, of the Inspector's certificate having been given, Fifty per ceDt. of the number undertake to be supp'ied, to be delivered by the end of October, and the whole by the 31st December, 1901. Oouderoned sleopers must ba distinctly blanked by the Inspector.
