A SALUfARY SENTENCE. PEB PBKS3 ASSOCIATION. Auckland, May 21. • At the Supreme Court the Grand Jury made a presentment to the Judge drawing attention to the frequency of offences against women, and sUtingtbat punishment hitherto inflicted did not appear sufficiently severe to act aa a deterrent. Later on Robert Henry Aubroy was found guilty of attempted rapp, and sentenced to ten yeira' hard labour, with two floggings of 25 lash* each.

George Shamy, thefc of two chequed, £1 and £llO (?) ivspectivel", pleaded guilty and was let out on six month*' proba'ion on rnakir.g restitution of £i of the money stolen ai,d pay £lO oosts of prosecution at £3 per month. George Newman and James Bown were charged with ro l >Wry from a person in a hotel. Brown was dinaiiaeel but Newman got 12 months' hard labour. Wa'ter Nasby was charged with fcheap sealing at Akaroa. The caw for the prjHfduiou hus closed and the Court adj jurrred.
