The Daily News. TUESDAY, MAY 21, 1901. SEASIDE ATTRACTIONS.

Thk movement to erect a really good pi6r on the foreshore at New Plymouth is, on# that will be cordially approved by everyone. In the sea beach New Plymouth has an asset of enormous value which, if properly conserved, wll prove very beneficial to the whole district. At Home nearly all seaside towns have a properly equipprd pier, where a band plays of an evening, and is the favourite promenade for visitors and tourist?. In the past New Plymouth baa been singularly neglectful of the interests of visitors to the town. It is a source of complaint on the part of country settlers that with the exception of the Recrpation Grounds nothing is done to render New Plymouth attractive to visitors. Many complaints have been made to us of the deliy in the construction of the baths on the E Reserve, about which so much was Slid some time ego. We don't know if it is possible to work both projects together. We fear not, but we do hope that both will be taken up and prosecuted with the energy which the subject demands. The population of the iulaod districts is increasing so rapidly that there need be no fear but i that p'enty of support will be forih-i coming. The sea presents an irresistible attraction at all times, and if proper facilities are provided for the comfort and neceesties of viei'ors there is little doubt but that their visits will become more and more frequent, ai d [both bath's and pier prove a very great financial success.
