The second and third contingents are going home under the command of Colonel Robin, with Major Jowsey and Onptain Crawshaw. The strength of the men going is 250 out of double that number that oiiginally landed in this country —an eloquent tribute to the part they have taken in the battles of the Empire in South Africa. The second contingent landed atCnpetown fourteen monthsago, and the third at East Lond m twelve months since. The first-mentioned inarched through the Karoo to Bloemfontein, and the latter went to Wepener and joined the tiixt and second contingents at Kroonstad. 'I he whole were then placed under General Hutton, and took part in the general advance upon Pretoria. After resting in the Transvaal capital for about a month, they were transferred to the force under General lan Hamilton, aivl went fighting round Rustenburg and Commando Nek ; Komati Poort and Barlierton under General French. Then they returned to Pretoria, and after refitting, scooped up the country round Belfast, Rustenburg, and went on to Kaapmiuden. Balmoral, thence back to Pretoria, dealing with the commandos under Burgers, Erasmus and Viljoen. The whole of the fighting since the fall of Pretoria consisted of the guerrilla order. The contingents have lost a large number of men, and the list of wounded makes quite a big total. For instance, Captain Crawsliaw was wounded in the stomach at Rustenburg; recovering, he rejoined his command and in the first fight, at Balmoral, he was hit again. In addition, the list of wounded officers comprises Captain Tucker, Captain Clayton, Lieuts. Findlay, Montgomery and Sommerville, and Dr. Godfrey. Lieut. Bradburn was killed, and two other officers died from fever.
