Botoiti, s.s, from New Plymonth, at 4.25 p.m. The Oreti was commanded by Captain Jarman, lite first mate of the Btorn-bird, on the occasion of her last visit to New Plymouth. Captain Wood, her late commander, has retired. Oaptain Weod will take with him into private life the good wishes of many friends for his future happiness. The Paparoa left the Waitara roadstead on Sunday aV2 30 p.m., the heavy weather rendering it impossible to work the river. * A wire from Auckland states that all hope is now abandoned for the brigantine Linda Weber, eight weeks out from Gisborne to Ngururo, in ballast. She was last beard of off the East Cape on April 23rd. Bhe was owned by Capt. D. Shaw, of Auckland, and inured for*£Soo. Considerable anxiety was felt in New Plymouth yesterday regarding the Mapourika. Up till a late hour last evening she was not posted amongst the arrivals, at Wellington, although she left hew Plymouth on Friday at noon. The Upolu left Nelson for New Plymouth at 9 a.m. yesterday (Sunday), and arrives at daylight this morning. Avery heavy s»a was running at New Plymouth on Saturday and Sunday. The reclamation wall was at timis quite submerged, no material damage wa«, bowever r done. At high water ihe sight was very grand* The next Home steamer with dairy pro- ! duce will be the Paparoa, leaving Wellington on May 23rd. To avoid disappointment early application for space is necessary
