NEW PLY&OUTH v. OARHINQTON ROAD.
The first match of the season was played between the Carrington ioad and New Plymouth Clubs on the farmers ground on Thursday afternoon. Tl ere was * gocd attendance of both New Plymouth and Carrington road residents, inc'uding a strong representation of the Carrington roid Ladies' Hockey Club. Aft r a hard fought game the vititois won by one goil which ww scored in the scond spell. Aft- r the game the lady support*-? of Cirringt'in road GluH handed round afternoon t<'-a, which was gre\tly appreciated by the visi ors, who gave three clneis to the ladies for their kind hospitil't.y. Mr. Stanley Smith ai-ted as referee, aid Messrs Allen and Ambury as line limping, all of whom gave every satisfaction.
NOTES ON THE GAME. Although a hird fought game wag wi'iv"s«ed it cannot be said tint it wai a go-d display of hork°y. The absence « f eombV.ation and an idea of what the game should be, wss conspicuous by iho prevalence of individual play, and constant hi'ti ig at random.
