SLEEPER SUPPLY Stores Manager's Office, Wellington, 220 d April 1901. fpHE Railway Depaitment will purchase JL SLEEPERS, 7ft. by Bin. by 6in. in siz®, in lota of 250 or mo e, delivered snd stacked at any riilway-station cr siding, at the following r.tes, viz.: Hewn or Sawn Totara Sleepers at 3s Gd each. Oilers to supply will be received at the Railway Btores Manager's Office up to 31st May, 1901. The trees from which sleepers will be cnt shall be felled du'ing the months of June, July, and August. All timber mast be felled by September. Sleepers to be »11 hea't-wood, free from large knots, shakes, and other defects; hewn trus in shape, and out of winding; to le sawn square at ends; to be cut from large trees (no honeycombed or burnt timber will be accepted); to be stacked as directed, and to be approvad and passed by the Railway Inspector, Sleepers will be inspected in the bush if to required by the supplier, but no Inspector will be sent to pass a less number than 250. On receiving notice cf sleepers being ready for inspection, the District Engineer will fend an Inspector to pass and brand them After the sleepers have been branded and inspected the supplier must deliver them at tin railway station or siding at which he oilered to supply; after such delivery hss been made the Inspector will give the supplier his certilicate, aed for such us have passed insp;ction pajment will be made within fourteen days, or as near ai may be, of the Insje.tor's certificate having been given. Fifty per cent, of the numbei urder'akm to be supp'.ied, to be delivered by the end of October, ami the whole by the 31st December, 1901.
