TEACHER'S INSTITUTE.
The usual monthly meeting of the Taranaki branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute was held on Saturday last. The President occupied the chair and there was a good attendance of members.
Mr Dempsey's paper on OompDeition read at the previous meeting was criticised at some length by Mr Grant, who held rather different views on the subject. He was followed by several other mombars who gave tfceir opinions on composition as a whole, and on tha teaching of paraphrasing in particular. After Mr Dempiey had replied, the President stat«d that at the next meeting a discussion on grammar would be opened by Mr Young. Mr Pope read a paper oa pataphrasing which was much apprecia'ed, Copies of the proposed scald of ea.aries and staffe ware distributed among the members present. The meeting then adjourned. It is quite pleasing to note tbat teachers are beginning to realise the | good work done by the Institute, as a large number of new members were proposed and elected.
