THE ROYAL VISIT.

(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Received 27, 9.66 a.m. Melbourne, April 27. Lord Hopetoun has approved of the remission of a portion of the sentences lon first offenders in connection with the Royal visit. The New Zealand Association is arranging a smoke concert to New Zealand visiters and troops.

The Mayor (Mr. E. Dockrill) re ceived the following wire on Saturday from Mr. JohD Holmes, the Executive Commissioner in connection with the Riyal visit to New Zealand : " Royal Visit: I hepe your district will join with Wellington in making a distinctive display characteristic of the enterprise always displayed by Taranaki. May I suggest an arch of butter boxes."
