STRATFORD NOTES.

(raOM OUR OWN COBRESPOHDBKT Oohsidkbablb interest waa taken in the local municipal election. All the candidates received a goodly number ef votes; but the state of the poll clearly showed the feeling of the publio witb regard to the Mountain Road North footpath scheme. Both the gentlemen who advocated this in the late Ceancil i were badly " left." The Boroagh is to be congratu'ated on the election of men like Messrs Q. N. Curtis and W, Woodhead, whose talents, business experij euce, and standing cannot fail to be of value to the Council.

On the same day a poll was taken on the Town Hall proposal, to erect a hall costing £3OOO. It was decided, almost unanimously, 262 votes to 18, to go on with the work, a decision that will be generally satiafactory. It is high time Stratford had a decent ball.

The Central 00-opjrative Store Company, Limited, haye disposed of their Broadway building site to tire local gentlemen at ; the very satisfactory figure ef £BOO for the goodwill of the lease of 40ft frontage. I understand it is the intention of the latter to erect a building that will stand comparison' with the Municipal Buildioga on one! side and the County Hotel on the other.

I hear that the racks of the • Devil's Own' in Stratferd are to be shortly recruited from New Plymouth.
