ST. JOHN'S AMBULANCE ASSOCIATION.

NEW PLYMOUTH CENTKE. Ths annual mesting of the New Plymouth ceatra of the above Assooiation was held in St. Mary's Hall on Friday evening. Tnere was a fair attendance, His Wor?nip the Mayor (Mr. E. Dockrill), ProsMentof the Association, occupied the chair, and called upon the Secretary, Mr. Ains worth, to read the report and balance-sheet. The report alluded to the work done as fairly satisfactory, though from a progressive point of view the anticipated resul's for the second year of the Centre's existence bad largely been realised. The total number of passes for the district was 113, details of which were se'. forth. The ssrvice? of Dw. Leitham, Walker, McCleland, "Home, Hutcbinsoa (N.P.), Carbery, Paget, Binders (Stratford) and Dr. Harrison (Eltbam) wore warmly eulogised, and the trouble and pains taken by those gentlemen, sometimes at great personal inconven ; ence, was heartily acknowledged. The pipers of the; Stratford candidates received sppcia' commendation from tho Examiner. ; The formation of advanced class's for men and women was in contemplation at .New Plymouth and Stratford ; in- . formation will be furnished when the ; project is mature:?. Miny more : students have attended the lectures | that have como forward for examinai tions. It »as hoped that they m»y continue their studies and at some ■ future time pass tioir examination. The Secretaries of the various »üb- ! fections were commended for theii service?, especially Mr. H. E. Lone. 1 the results of his labours being that 64 members had enrolled and 39 pas?rs , obtained. was exprewed that, the movement had not been taken up at same of the centres in the province, but it wa« hopud that this will be remedied in the near future. Saver.>l of the members h»d interested themselves in an attempt to form a " Volunteer Bearer Corps " for Naw Plymouth, but up to the pie-sent there did no*; seem much prospect of their services being accepted. Tha Executive learns . withregret that Dr. Walker (who ha* b?en most iudefa'igable in his efforts in the work) has intimated his inability to continue as a hcturer, but he "will be willing (o act as examiner. It is hoped that this difficulty will be overcome now that another medical gentleman baa settled in Now Plymouth. During the year Mrs. Collis who has acted as honorary secretary since the beginning of the movement, had, through ill-health, been compelled to resign from her position. This is a , matter of deep regret as Mrs, Collis was most indefatigable in h»r efforts to further the work and made several journeys to tha various towns in the province for the purpose of organising clas<es and has been the moving spirit i of the centre.

Mr. Ainsworth has been appointed to the position vacated by Mrs Collis and Mr?, !{,. 0, Hughes has kindly offered to assist a>d aot as honorary secretary for the ladies aliases. The bsst thanks of the Centre are alsi due to Mr. R, 0, Hughes for kindly placiog his office at the disposal of the executive for holding their meetings. The executive have voted Mrs. Oollis nr> honoraiium of three guinoa? (is a tin!! ■oknn of th«ir appreciation of her services which they feel is quito inadequate for ths- good work she has donf>. The balance-sheet showed receipts as £29 0-s 8d and expenditure £l6 6s lid, leaving a credit balance of 412 13s 91 to carryforward, The Chairman moved the adoption of the report and w he expressed bis disappointment at, the email number of subscribing members. He referred to the aucccss of the Association and the value of such an organisation, and exp-esfed the bope '.hat the coming year would be a prosperous one.

Mr. Kerr seconded the motion in a few well-chosen remarks, and it w„s put and carried. Apologies for absence wgra read from the Venerable Arckdeapon Qovett, Dr, Home, Dr, Walker, Dr, Hutchism, Mr, Henry Brown, and Mr. Oscar Johnston,
