BOROUGH COUNCIL.

A. meeting of the newly-eleofced Council was held on Friday morning. Present: His Worship the Mayor (Mr. E, Dockrill), Crs. Bellringer, Glow, Lealand, Brooking, Carter, Collie, Stihr, and Veile. The following committees were appointed ; Works", Finance and Estimates Committee, The Mayor, Crs. Bellringer, Brooking and Sftohr • Fire Prevention, Crs. Carter, Clow and Tisch ; Csmetery, Ors, Collis, Veale, and Lealand; Reserves, Ors. Bellringer, Brooking and Stehr ; Town Hall, Crs. Collis, Veale'and Clow ; By-laws, The Mayor, Crs. Bellringer, Breaking and Stonr; Public Health, Crs. Carter, Tisch and Lealand; Library and read-ing-room (joint), The Mayor, Crs. Carter, Bellringer and Brooking. A discussion, initiated by Or Veale, took place on the qnestion of the supervision of works, which in the p»st hit;] entailed a large expenditure of time by the Chairman of the Works Committee.

Cr, BfQokicf moved that a new set of bye-laws be drafted, Cr. Bellringer seconded the motion, which, after a few remarks by the Mayor, was carried. The Mayor reperted the result of his interview with the Minister of Justice (already published) rein tire to the gravel pit at the gaol. Ho moved that the Reserves Committee collect and forward to the Minister all avisil-sbV informatioH.—Carried.

On the motion of Cr. Colli-, the Town Hall Committee was requested to report on the question of furnishing and seating the Council Chamber, The Council adjourned,
