PROHIBITION LEAGUE.
The annual meeting of the New Plymouth Prohibition League was held in the Baptist Church last evening, Rev. S. J. Serpsdl, President, being in the chair. «
The report, which was adopted, made feeling reference to the fact that the President had, unfortunately, been laid aside by illness during a good portion of the year. A successful convention of temperance workers, was held in August last, at whioh resolutions were carried against certain propos d alterations in the licensing faw. j A committed bus beea formed to cany on Temperance Mis-iion work during the year. It was hoped that the organisation would go forward into the new year w\th ren9wcd hops and a strong determination to carry out the good work in hand. The treasurer's statement of accounts showed that there was a debit balance of £2l 14s Id on the year's working. Against this there were subscriptions amouuting to £5 to coma in.
A lengthy discussion followed on matters concerning tornperanoe work in the district. Referring to the proposal on foot.to.allow the 8.11 Block licen&e to efepsa with a view to getting an additional one in New Plymouth, foe Chairman said he had obtained legal advice on the nutter, and was informed that as the law stood nothing could be done to prevent such action, After several of those present had it was decided to call a special meeting of all temperance workers immediately auy Hteps were taken to make application for a new license in New Pljmouth. At • this stage it was d< emed advisable to, adjourn the meeting uatil 7th May, when a'l sympathisers in temperance work will be invitad to attend.
