NEW PLYMOUTH FIRE BRIGADE.
ANNUAL MEETING AND DINHEK. The annual meeting of tbe Fire Brigade was held on Tuesday evening at the Cofltrnl Station. There wore about 30 members present, Captain Bellringer presiding. Tbe report stated. that the Brigade appliances were in geod order, and the members generally officiant in their work. At the Christchurch demonstration the Brigade did fairly we?}. The balance-she&t showed a credit bilance of .£9l 18s 4d on the year's working. The election of officers resulted:—Captain, F, Bellringer (reelected); lieutenant, A. Boon (reelected); foremen, J. Roberts (Central Ward), P. Bellringer (Eaet Ward, reelected), J. Johnson (West Ward, reelected); secretary, H. H.Ford (vice ft. Smart, resigned); treasurer, Captain Bellringer. An adjournment was thsn made to Mrs. Weale's Boardingfcousp, where a company of between 50 and 60 sit down to a splendid repast provided by the popuhr bostrs?. Captain Bell ringer presided, and Lieutsnant Boon occupied the viea-cfcair. There were also present—The Mayer (Mr. E. Dockii 1), Ors. T. Avery and F. Stohr, Captains Wilson (Hawera), and Taylor (Inglewood), Mr, 0. E. Bellringer (Town Clerk), and a number of citizens.
After drinking the tease of " The King," Lieutenant Boon proposed "The Fire Prevention Committee." which was responded to by Cr. Avery, whs intimated his intention of presenting a gold medal for competition among j members. j
j Captain B?llringer proposed " The Mayor and Councillors," and referred to thy hearty assistance wndired by the Council to the Brigade, which was a strong ioctintive to further efforts on the part of matnbera. Mr. Doskril) had always strongly supported the Brigade personally. The Mayor, responding, said ho lookid upm it h«s his duty as a citizen, and as a member of the Council, to support the Brigade, It had always proved efficient, both at home and a' competitions, and this was largely due 19 the work done by the officers and the gaod relations existing batweso them and the men,
The Mayor proposed " The New Plymouth Volunteer Fire Brigade," Captain Billringer responding. Other toasts were : - " United Fira Brigades Association," proposed by the Mayor and responded to by Mr 0, E. Bellringer, au ex-prssideat of the Association; "Kindred Brigades," proposed by Mr 0. E. Bellriager, and replied to by CaptaiDS Wilson and Taylor; " Officsrsof the Brigade," " The Ohristichurch Team," " Absent Firemen," and ■' The Lidus."
Songs were contributed during the evening by Firemen J. 0. Smith and S. Roberts, Messrs H. Moon, O'Donuell, T. W.Kvtphy, McComish, Kelly »nd Jenkins; and selections by Mr I'unbridgo's orchestra. Mr Scanlon acted ai accompanist.
