Or Wednesday last Mr Gotten (o* Oatten Bros., consulting engineers, a* Danedin), while on a visit to Dr, W. R Close-Enon (Mayor of Onehuoga). accompanied that gentleman to view the suggested completion of the dredging operations in the vfcinity of j the Onehunga wharf. Ihey alto in- ! spected the basin adjaeent to the wharf, which has morn than fotty acres of an area, and is absolutely dry at low water. This wou'd be a saleable! place to deposit any material dredged from the harbour. Mr Oatten expressed the opinion that tbe filling-in of the basin with matter dredged from the harbour could be easily done by building; a retaining wall aocross the mouth of the) basin, and then remov iog all dettiis from, around the wharf with a dredge and pomp Mr Oatten stated that bis firm have been engaged for years in manufacturing dredges wish pumps attached, capable of disponing of all dredging matter over a distance of three-quarters rf a mile. D-. Erson is of opinion tbatthis would be the simplest and most effective way to complete the dredging of the Manukau Harbor, and if the bsßin were 611 ed in with the debris it would make a spleodid recreation if serve for the public of Onehunga,
