THE LARGEST STEAMERS.

Th« two steamers now being built by the Easteru Shipbuilding Company at Cretou, XJ.A.S,. are said te be larger than any vessel now building or planned. Of 20,000 tons register and 33,000 tons displacement, they are just 10,000 toes more capacious than the Deutschland. The new steamers, wkiok are chietly for cargo purposes, are not as long as many Atlantic liners, bel are considerably wider and deeper. The following are the princi- i pal dimensions: Length, 630 f t; j beam, 73ft; depth, 50ft. They have each live continuous decks extending the whole length ef the ship, with three additional partial docks amid-j ships. Passengers as well as freight' will be carried; and accommodation is provided fer nearly 1000 passeDgers in three classes. The vessels will have a spaed of fourteen k&otg an hour, and will carry over 4000 tons of coal in bunkers. They are designed to carry cattle, chilled or frozen meats in refrigerating chambers, fruit, or any kind of cargo that may appear for transportation, and are intended to run from the Pacific, coast to Oriental porta in connection with the Great .Northern Railway.
