PRESENTATION TO MR. E. M. SMITH, M.H.R.
Just before the train left for the Breakwater last night Mr. Berry, president of the Liberal Association, presentrd Mr. Smith, M.H.R., with a gold watch, suitably inscribed, from the workingmen of New Plymouth and the liberal \ Association. In doing so, Mr. Bwry made a few suitable remarks, expressing the hope that Mr. Smith's missies would be successful. Mr, Smith bri«fly replied, expressing his confidence in the success of hie missisr, and thanking the donors for the handsome and useful present Bad* to him. The Town Band pinyed appropriate £#• lections, and a large concoarse of people took part in the proceedings, and heartily cheered Mr. Smith as he proceeded to the train. Mr. Smith left for the north in the Rotoiti.
