It may be doubted whether the local Bowling Green has over beaa seen to grsator advantage than on Thursday afternoon when there was a very large at endanee both of members, ladies and visitors, who bad assembled chiefly fco tfik-» hnv« of the popular president'of the Club, Mr. Jan. Paul, who sails frem Wcl ington on Saturday for the OW Country. The weather was perfect and the hacdseine toilettes of the ladies assisted in giving the scone a gay appearance. About 4.30 a breik in th< play was mude and the bowlers assembled at tbe pavilion end of the Green where Mr. Cock, on behalf of vice-presidents and member*, addressed a few parting words to Mr. Paul, After referring to the obligations whiok the members were under te their president, not only for his unflagging interest in the Club, but teaching them how to play bowls, he wished Mr. Paul a pleasant voyage and hoped that he would return with hut'ehs, and also with bowling wrinkles whioh would be of service to the members. H/i sincerely ; trusted that Mr. Paul would return in improved heal h and in good fettle for ' playing many more games on their green. On behalf of the members, and i as an expression of their good will and ' esteem he asked Mr. Paul's acceptance ■ of a travelling bag which had been fur- ' nished with a few articles that might '< prove of service for the voyage out and ■ home. Finally he wished Mr. Paul • " good luck " and a safe return. (Ap- ■ pkuse). The Town Band which was • in attendance struck up " For He's a T Jolly Goad Fellow," thereby just exb pressing the sentiment uppermost ia s the minds of all present. » Mr. Paul, who was evidently co»- ■ siderably moved by the enthusiasm of 8 his fellow bowlers, expressed his thanks 8 for th9ir good wishes, and also for tl.e 8 very useful present made to him, whioh 1 he should value highly, not for its in--9 trinsic worth, but for the good feeling 8 towards him which prompted the gif r. 1 He hoped that the Taranaki bowUntc h representatives would be able te> giv* * a good account of themselves at Home, '» though he did not expect n* would gain. r any laurels in Scotland. He trusted ea * his return, to meet them again an tbe 7 green, and he was sure that he weuld 6 receive a warm welcome.
