JUBILEE SINGERS.
Favoured with a 2no wight For their L f.-coti'l performance-, Uic S';.i;,'o,"« ', liar! ilk; s-itisfactiou of sigoing to ua : ' audierxe which v/a:< hi rvory way wo'lhy ;i the exceptional merit of t'io csmpany. Again fioin first!; to la"!-, .-, ev;.ry item ou the programme was en- ; thusir stically rocsivtd and loudly en- „ cored. Eich mombor of Mr. McAdoo's B giftod company snters so heartily, and with such evident enjoyment, i<ito the wi)k in hand, that apathy on tho part of the audience is altogether out of the [ question. Good ss was the performance on Tuesday evenicg, that of Wednesday was ev«n better, probably swing to the artists being more at home in the building. Geitaiidy it may truly ba said that never have the Jubilee siegers been heard to snch * advantngo as they were last night. A.B usual the programme commenced ' with a sacred piece, which on this ". 8 cision was " Prepare me. Oh! Lord," 1 followed by " The Lord's Prayer," both ! bsing given with tbat grand effect that ] the subjects deserved. The next chorus was "The Band ef Gideon," full of life ' and melody. This was loudly encored, ' and, in respond, " Stand the Storm " ' was sung magnificently. Thenfollowada ' chorus with sob by Mr HcAdoo " Asleep in the Deep," which was a real trcnt, the sonorous nates of the solo setting off the choral parts to great advantage; as an encore the old familiar " I'se goin' b?.ck to Dixie" being suns; as : only the Jubilee Singers can render it. ; " Hear Dem Bells," as usunl, evoked \ pro'onged applause, the artistic production of bell-like sounds being very <'lev«r. The encore was " I'm going to , Sing," and this afforded very great : pleasure to audiance. " Roll, Jor- ; don, Roll " also evoked an outburst of I applause, the encore being " Rock Mo, 1 Oliauo 1 ;," a coaipemition which took immensely. Tho chorno, with folo by , Mr. Collins, " Won't you take me buck ■ to Dixie," was also finely rendered, the i last, ver,e being r>->poated. " Brother : Michael " is always irresistible and was . executed with that dash and crispness j which exactly suited it. Tfeo en cote to s this was "Let us move Alone." The " firs'; part concluded with " Hard Trials" rind as a special request had b?on made j for the repetition of " Marching through ) Pretoria" tb.Rt up-to-dato item was "• (nven with immense success. \ The singing of Miss Underwood in , the second part of the programme was . again a special feature, e'pecially in '■ " Maggie " where from a very prolonged ■ high but sweat top nota her voice „ swept doivn in gentle cadence like the , note.? of song bird dropping from mid , airtoeu-tb. This accomplished artiste r well d?Borved the double encore bestowed on her. Mr. Collins also secured i. a triple encore for his coon songs, that of " Suzzie-ue " heing superbly finished in its quaint rendering. Miss Gibbons war al o neenrded an encore for her ' t song " Ts'and of Dreams" which was . a really grand piece of vocaliiation, as n was also "Close to the Threshold," '' which wis given for the encore. Pre'j fessor White, in H«i pianoforte eoio, 3 showed that he wao a moat accomplished i- ins'rumentalist, his powers of manipulation being a revelation to most people. As on the previous evening, " Gauze ". the male mezzo-soprano, raised quite a furore wish his singing and acting, y scoring a triple encore. n TO-NIGHT. d Thi final performance of the season rj takes place to-n : ght, when several new e items will be heird. There is little e doubt but that the house will again be u ciowded, as the entertainment is one *' that is bound to attr.vct a'l swts and condiii-ns of people.
