The fire broke out ins new building only completed about six weeks, and the whole of this, oorerrnf three-eighths of an aero, was gutted. It comprised a 48 stalled stable and s> large storeroom, 100 feet square, above it. Most of the horses and carts were get out, hut some 6 or 7 bones were burred. Ths other .juildin?, tho of ■ bride, ioJudieg blacksmiths and 'saddlera shops and stabl- a and loft, was damaged about the roof only. No particulars can be got yet of the extent of the damage. It is said that about 15000 worth of furniture was stored in the building and destroyed. Th# buiWirg and goods are insured for £8770 in the New Zealand Insurance Company and reinsured in other offices.
