BAPTIST CHURCH ANNIVERSARY.
Thk 33rd anniversiry of tha laying of tho foundation stone of the Gill-street Baptist Church oocurred on Monday, and a special service was held to commemorate the occasion. The church has lately been redecorated within and Without, the interior being painted very delicately. A handsome piece of scroll work occupies the wall behind the minister. The work, which wai done by Mr. West, has given meat complete satisfaction. The Rev. Jas. Ings gave some interesting reminiscences at tbe early days of tbe church, stating that in Mr. B. "Wells'" History of Taranaki "be found a cepy of the inscription on the stone, which w*s," On the 11th March, 1868, tbe foundation stone of tbia church, intended for tbe use of tha Baptist denomination was laid by the Rev, John Whiteley. Mr. Ings alluded to the fitness of holding in grateful remembrance the names of these pioneer?, and te the pleasure he had ib paying a tribute of praise to tbe memory of his predecessara, while he expressed a hope that those present would hand down tbe traditions of the church with added lustre,
