Received 2, 9.2S a.m London, March l.n Obituary: William Maxwell Erarts, L.L.D., the celebrated Am'-rican lawyer ind politician, agod 63 [The late Dr. Evarts was educated at Yale and Harvard, and was admitted to the bar in 1841. He soon took a leading position, being Deputy 17.8. District Attorney from 1849 to 1853. He was tho leading counsel for President Johnson on bis impeachment trial n 1868, and acted as counsel for the United States in the Alabama Arbitration. Iu 1877, ucder Pi-esident Hayes, he became (secretary of State mtil 1881. An acceoiplished scholar, >\a able speaker, and a legal authority of no mean order, he was an ornament of the American bar and the Senate.]
