AMALGAMATED RAILWAY SOCIETYS' SOCIETY.

' Palmekstoh North, February 25. ' A spacial general meeting of the local branch of the Amalgamated Society of railway servants was held yesterday to consider replies from tha General Manager to a requisition mad* by the conference held in April leal year. The opinion was expressed that the replies on the following queetieaa were inadequate and unsatisfactory : (1) Classification; (2) the failure of the Department to recognise a stated week's work for certain divisions of ti-affio hands; (3) the demand made) tkut bridge hands be paid for wet and dry days; (4) the failure of the Depigment to grant eight hours off between shifts. Regarding, the latter clause the men consider that where the exigencies of the service are opposed time equivalent to three hours shall be allowed. The meeting was the largest attended fur years. Another meeting will be held to decide the course of action.
