A charge preferred against four firemen of the Waikato for refusing to ebey orders was dismissed at Wellington on Monday. As the new roll for the Borough has to be compiled by March sth it is necessary that residents not on the roll should send in their claims at once.
The programme of the Btar Club's Sports in the Recreation Grounds on Easter Monday will be found in another column. It is full of interesting items, and should attract a large crowd.
Several people have been frozen to death by the severe cold in Paris.
We are requosted to state that the Ohristchurnh Demonstration is to be held on February 28th, not on June 24th as notified in the TaranaM Herald. The New Plymouth team coasists of Lieut. There seems to be an epidemic of irregularities is debate at meetings of public bodies. On Monday there was quite a lively' scene at the Hospital Board meeting, when | Mr. McCallam defied the authority rf the chair and refused to sit down when ordered. The Chairman (Mr. Oorkill) appealed to the Board ts support his authority or he would resige. In face of this the offender subsided, remerkißg that it was a final kick. The following trains leave New Plymouth station to-day for the Breakwater, connecting with steamers mentioned below, as follows : —6.45a.m., Eotoiti (from North); 8 a.m., Takapuna (from South); 9,30 am., jßotoiti (for Bfuth) ; 9.50 p.m., Takapuna (for North). A passenger-car will be attached ts the goods train, leaving Now Plymouth far the Breakwater, about 8 p.m. Mr. J. 0. Smith has been appointed Registrar of Births, Deaths, and Marriages, vice Mr. Holds worth, resigned.

George Sutcliffe, manager of an accommodation house at Titahi Bay, was fined £2O , and costs fdt sly grbg-selling. A thousand native labourers employed at the Capetown docks struck, fearing plague. The steamer Warrigal, b.>und for Australia, refused to take passengers or mails. If tbe Australian vessels refuse to call at Capetown the mails will ba sent overland via India. The vacancies on the Midland Hailway Commission, caused by the resignation! of Messrs. Morrison aud Back, have been filled. Mr, Jas. MacKerrow, of the Land Purchase Department, succeeds Mr. Back, and Mr. John Graham, M.H.R., replaces Mr. Morrison, while Mr. Khorterick McKenzie becomes Chairman of the Commission.
The Ophir's complement of 460 officers and men will be commissioned on the 26th instant, when the steamer proceeds to Portsmouth to complete her preparations for the Royal visit to Australia.
