Mr. J. B. Koy has bsen appointed selicitor to the newly-elected Mokau Harbour Board. In connection with the Henni service, or, rather, no service, on Sunday, we are informed that a lay-reader was set down for the same but was calle 1 away suddenly, Mr. Back has resigned his seat on the Midland Kailway Commission.
At Awanui a nativo named Horiki was committed for trial for assaulting another native, who has been unconscious since January 14th. In addition to Mr. James Bailringer, Mr. Dockrill, the present Mayer, is to ba a candidete for the position of Mayor, and yesterday a requisition was being taken round the town asking Mr. R. Cock to allow himself to be nominated.
Lovers of horse racing are reminded of the Autumn Meeting of the Taranaki Jockey which takes place to-day. All the arrangements are completed, and everything point i to a yery successful gathering, with every indication of perfect weather.
