The Minister replied that as far as he knew, Parliament merely wished to return to the teachers, who had lost it fourteen years ago, the extra five shillings capitation, and that there was no spscific expressions as to wli'ch teichois wore to receive increases. The Department had followed

the princip'e which the circumstances of most of the provincial districts demanded. Mr. Eogb<;n, IwpectorGoneral, stated the increases had been given to those teachers who held cer-

tificates required far their position, but. no bonuses had bien given for holding a higher certificate thai necessary. It was decided that the Board should confer with its inspectors, and revise the list with a vieiv to making suggestions.
