At a meetiog of citizens for arranging a reception to the Imperial troop* it transpired that the suggestion of billeting the men had been coldly received by the citizens, only eightyfour effers having been received. With each was a (tipnlatien that oaly officers and non-commissioned officers be received. After hearing Colonel Porter'* views it wag decided to abandon the billeting idea, and to recommend the Government that the men be kept aboard the Britannic at night. It was ■ further decided that the Imperial men and volunteers be entertaiued at a monster tea, a committee being set np to make arrangements.
