A of Boers attacked a train standing at a station on the DeL.goa line. The driver of the train shot Commandant Liebrandt dead, while he -was tampering with the vacum brake. The rest of the Boers then fled.
General Smith-Dorrien has dispersed the Boera around Carolina. The British had four killed and eighteen wounded.
General Knox engaged Commacdant De Wet forty miles north of Thabanchu to prevent an attempted re-invasion of Cape Colony. The Boerg entered Boksburg on January 29th, and damaged the Mod-derfontem-Yanryn mines. Commandant Marais and two Boers were captured.

SIXTH CONTINGENT. ENTHDSIA6TIO FAREWELL. Auckland, January 30. The Auckland section of the Sixth Contingent rsceived an onthu«ia s t'c farewell to-day. though, owing to ti-.e Queen's death, the ceremony was practically confined to a few speeches in the vicinity of the Drill Shod. A 1 thou eh it was not a holiday, an enormous crowd gathered in this neighbourhood, and the march was witnessed by a vest number of spectators, the troops being heartily cheered as they parsed along. The southern section met the Auckl&nders at the Drill Hall.
The speakers were the Hon. J. McGowan, the Mayor (Mr. D. Goldie), and Rabbi Goldstein ( wetary of th« Send-off Committee). AH spoke in patriotic terms, sympathetic reference being made to the death of the Quean. Mr. McGowam read a telegram ftom the Governor wishing the C 'ntingent a safe paesage, a eucoessful mission, and a liappy return. The Premier cabled b'*s gc.d wishes to the Contingent and his in their acquitting themselves worthy of the other Contiegentg. The c?rPmooy doted with t ! e National Anthem and hparty cheers. The Contingents embarked shout 5 p.m., the Cornwall beinj followed I the harbour by a number of yachts and j o'her vessels. 1 Trooper O'Sallivan, a Southern member of the Sixth Contingent, fell do-m ptiirs at an hotel through his spin? catching, sad hurt his bnck, which ha' previously bnen injured. He was sent to tbfi hospital, and had to be left behind.
