THE "ARNOLD" COMEDY COMPANY.
The opening performance of the Arnold Comedy Company at the Theatre Royal on Tuesday evening put a record in the matter of attendance at our local theatre, for sot only was the building packed to its utmost capacity, bat hundreds had to be refused admission. The seafr bookod in advance numbered lomewhere near 400, so as' may be imagined there were very few front seats available when the doors opened, j Every ene present was prop ired for, an evening's laughter, and their potations weieamply fulfilled. Throughout the whole piece there was continuous | hilarity which, at times, was carried to an extent of physical pnin. Qf
oou>s9 the sens was at New York, and the whole incidents of the pity take plec* at the house of a precise and antiquated professor of aaatomy, Ebenerzw Gcodly, whose brother, a theological professor, is expected on a visit at the opening of the pitce, but who is p«rßoDifi«d under very droll oircumstancep, and with Ebeneezer's consent, by the inimitable Jones, a traveller for playing cards and hymn books, The incidents that follow when Jonep, attired in the costume ef a high dignitary of tha church, carries out his impromptu role must bi to be realised, for no description cnn adequately convey the humour that bubbles over during every moment that fellows. The peact) was admirably staged, and as all the members cf the company are not only finished artists, but have, had the advantage of such . a long and successful run cf tin piece, tevery situation J;he each detail of byeplay combine to make tho comedy a most enjoyable evening's entertainment.
To-night Mr Charles ArnoM will produce the litest success which 'no has added to his ex'ensivo repertoire, "Why Smith Left Homa.'' This is another screaming farcical comedy by Broadhurst, the author of ''What Happened to Jones." "Saai'h" is legardel as being br funny as its predecessor, for crowded houpes have everywhere been at'raettd by the hilarious comudy. Like "Joneii," it is not a one pai t piece, and tho fun is who'osome, This U ihe labt appenrante of tho Company, The doors will bo o\ en at 7 o'clock eharp tonigh^.
