A deputation From tho New Heb'ides Mission Synod, waited on Mr. Barton as Minister of External Affairs and a statement of tboir case wan read. They accused the French of mal-ad-ministration with reference to land dealing with the natives. The Itfiv.' Paton declared that if the Frdnch claims were admitted, i largo pare of the Habridos already oelongt-d to them. Tan Rev. Small, declared that Captain Rich of the llingarooraa, as chairman of the Mixed Co.amission, had done all in his power to depress and retard British interests in tho Islands, The deputation wished for tho appointment of soma authority to investigate the land claims. A joint commission could not govern the islands. What w.is wanted was annexation to Britain. Mr. Barton, in reply, promised to give his very serious consideration to the statamects mads, He considered it his duty to make a representation to the secretary for tho colonies.
