Wellington, January 7. In the Gazette isaued on Saturday night, the regulations are published under the Maoii Lands Administration Act of last session. Every Maori who is twenty-one years of age, and upwards, is entitled to vote at any election of a member of the Council for a Maori land district in which he resides, and every male elector is qualified to ba a member of Buch Couacil, One Returning Officer for each land district shall b* appointed by the Governor, and shall be empowered to appoint deputy returning officers. Polling places shall be appointed by the Governor and gazetted eight days before the date of nomination. In the event of there being more candidates than ate requi v ed, a show of hands will be taken by the Returning Officer at the time of the nominations, and if a poll is not demanded the Returning Officer shall dsclare elected those candidates in whose favour a show of hands shall appear to have baen the largest. The Council of the district in which the block of Papitupa land is situate may fix a time and place for holding a meeting of claimants te the land, and the election of a Papatupa Block Committee. The President, or his deputy, and at least ene Maori member of the Council shall attend the meeting. The bonndaiies of the six land districts are gazetted, and also the returning officers and polling places. Regulations are also pub* lished under the Maori Councils Act of last session and provide for the Councils appointing village committees on the petition of the inhabitants. The members of such committees shall be nominated by the natives at a meeting ever which the chairman of the Council, or his deputy, shall 'preside, the chairman selecting members front nominees in case of more than the requisite number being nominated, It is also optional with the Council, of its own motion, to appoint a village kainga or pah committee. Thesa committees shall hold office for one year, but may be dissolved by the Council at anytime. No member, of the Council may be a member of a village committee. For the purpcse of this Act, the colony is divided into the following districts, the boundaries of which are defined:— Mangonui, Hokianga, Tekerau, Whangarei, Wairae, Ngatiwhatua, Te Arawa, Matitua, Maieuta, Takitiml?«*|^idH»-
