YOUNG MEN'S INSTITUTE.
Our readers aro reminded of the meet ing to be held in the Borough Ooanci Chambers to consider the formation o | a Young Men's Club. This movomeß originated with one of the churchei but the desire to avoid shutting oui those anxious to assist the geod worl belonging to other denominations lee to the meeting to be held to-night We notice the usual out-cry is beinj made to keep the churches out of thi movement and make it a purely sscula. institution To do this will be to depar entirely from the platform of the pro moteraandfurtherwill lead to failure. I the movement is to be a success from ) oharch standpoint and from a mora and religious standpoint the churche must keep a firm grip on it and bi contreling agents. It is|all very well ti prate about the goody-goody element but one may as well try to bale out thi ocean with a sieve as to try and sten the torrent of viee and profanity with out the aid of religion. The seculai young men's club, as it usually exists lis the greatest curse ever inflicted 01 any community, and any attempt tc start sueh an organisation in New Plymouth should be determinedly resisted by every right-thinking man and woman.
