THE PRfXIBR ON XBLIGIOUB EDUCATION. [FBB PKBSS ASBMIATIOX.] Chbistohdrch, December 16. All the Christohurch churches held JubilM Services in the morning. In the afternoon the Presbyterian Bunday School children Met at St, Paul's, the Wesleyans at the Exhibitien Hall, and the Church of England at the Cathedral, the latter numbering some 1600, and the choirs with 441 members were addressed by Bishop Wallis and the Premior. In the course of his speech the Premier paid great honour to the founders qf Canterbury, and especially to Bishops Selwyn and Harper and John Robert Godley. He urged the parent* not only to send their children to Sunday Schools, but to soe that they received religious instruction from Ministers before or aftor school hours, ng Sunday School teaohingin itself was insufficient for a religious education. He especially cautioned people against that indifforecce which was the greatest enemy to religion-. He wished all pres«nt every happiness and prosperity, and on bsbalf of the State thanked the old settlers for the oxcellent work they had doqe in the cause of civilisation.
