Note—The "M" Manare gave the best results in proportion to coat out of 19 ex-r perimentswith Champion Swede Turnips at the Government Experimental Farm at Momohaki in 1897 (see page 170, Fifth Report of Agricultural Department) Tfce experiments made at Momohaki witty yariqus Maputoa upon Turnips in the Sepou 1898-39 qhqw tftat the bust result w»s obtained from a mixture of onc-lhird Stemmed hone duit and twp-thirds basic stag (Thomas- Phosphate), whilst tho best result, at a miriirnutß cogf, was from a m.xturo of one-third Lawes' Superphosphate and two-thirds o£ tha vV.M E CS's *'M ' Manure. Tho latter nurture contains the same components as the VV.M & Co. a No. 3 Mixture, the proportions jting a little differonfc. The former combination points to the fact, now generally recognised. that the value of basic slag, also known as Thomas' Phosphate, has been greatly under-estimated. The W.M.E. Co.'a No. 4 Mixture contains one-third of Thomas' Phosphate. A perusal of the report of Mr. Gillandera, the manager at Momohakii embodying the resulis of the experiments referred to, which will be found in the Seventh Kopors of tho Dapartmenti of Agriculture, wonld amply repay any farmer who finds a selecting the most suitable manures.
