Thomas Letter, one of Arrowtown'b oldest and most respected miners, was. killed in his sluicing olaina last night, tie was in the act of clearing stone* from the head of the tail race, when a fall of earth came upon him from u distance of 200 feet. Ohiuotchubcu, December 5. An old awu namel Leitb, 70 yearof age, met witi a shocking do ith iu Salisbury-street this morning. Ha was dragged by his horsa along the metalled road some distance face downwards, until the wiiolo of his features weri bashed away. He was dead when picked up. Wellington December 5. J A 'child, twelve months old, son of Mr. 0. Lapper, of Petone, drank asolu-1 tion of cmstic soda yesterday, while, bis mother's back was turned, and died shortly afterwards.
