The Committee of the Taranaki Metropolitan Agricultural Society have every reason to be satisfied with the financial result of the 26 th Annual Show held at the racecourse on Thurs- [ day. Favoured with delightful weather,' the Show ground proved a very' attractive resort, and something approaching tofourthousand persons must have been present, a great in crease on the attendance of last year. The Show itself had several strong points, amongst which were the excellence of the dairy produce exhibits, the remarkably fine' display of bacon and bams, the choice collection of Jersey stock and the exceedingly creditable and extensive exhibits by the townspeople. In other respects the Show was more or less an average one, excep that there were no poultry exhibits, and sheep and pigs were both poorly represented. Horses, except in a faw instances showed no improvement over previous years and the number of entries might well have been larger, as in some events there was no competition at all, and in others not sufficient to create interest. There wasacapitil muster of pouies, and amongst them some really smart serviceable animals. la weight-carrying hacks up to 15 stono Mr. Boss' Bluegum, a really magni- , ficent animal, carried off first honours, Pr. Leatham's Guardsman making a good second. The leaping competition as usual proved very attractive and ; amusing both in the hack and pony i classes, in the latter of which Miss : Muriel Skinner's victory was very ' popular, With one exception the 1 judging met with approval, but unfor- \ tunately it was in the strongest class , (the Jerseys) that the prize list gave • dissatisfaction. This was much to be ' regretted; as it may affect entries another year, although it is to be hoped not. ThV pleasure of the visitors was greatly enhanced by the presence of the Oity Band, whose performance was much praised. There were severa l side shows which seemed to be doing good business. The arrangements for ' refreshments were in the hands of Mr 1 Lealand but might have been better ' managed. The afternoon tea booth 1 was crammed to overflowing, and the '. W.O.T.U. are to be congratulated on 1 the excellent way in which they attended to the wants of such a large crowd. It was six o'clock before the last event (Driving Competition) was decided and very few people were present, as after the leaping was over ;i general exodus set in. The officials 1 all worked hard to ensure success and their uniform courtesy added much to the popularity of the Show.
