Che bridge will be a boon to the public, is the river is only fordable when low md at low tide. * The Chairman of the Clifton County Council has been round collecting the statistics of the Mokau riding of the Council, The parties who generally iollect statistics must do a great deal if it by guess, as they visit very few if the settlers. This is meet likely to iccur in newly settled districts. The indefatigable Salvation Army ifficer, Mr. Buick, has been'collecting noney for self denial, doing the work >n foot and calling at every house. What a man to take the statistics of the country! Some two months ago he walked, when the weather was wet I and the roads all but impassable, from the month of the Tongaporutu River to Waitara, the inland route, and calling iat every house, in one day. The } weather is all that can be desired; feed plentiful, and the mud of the pist few months will soon be forgotten.
