Note—The "hi." Manure gave the beat results in proportion to cost out of 19 experiments with Champion Swede Turnips at the Government Experimental Farm at Momohaki in 1897 (nee page 170, Fifth Report of Agricultural Department) : The experiments made at Momohaki with various Manures upon Turnips in the Season 1898-99 show that the bust result was obtained from a mixture of one-third steamed bone dust and two-thirds basic Blag (Thomas' Phosphate), whilst the best remit, at a minimum cost, was from a mixture of one-third L&wes' Superphosjihate and two-thirds of the ty.M F. CVs l"M" Manure. The latter mixture contains the same components as the VV.M £. Co.'a No. 3 Mixture, the proportions otiag 1 a little different. The former combination points to the faot, now generally recognised, that the value of basio slag, also known as Thomas' Phosphate, has beon great)j under-estimated. The VV.M.E. Oo.'s ft'o. i Mixture contains one-third of Thomas' Phosphate. A perusal of the report of Mr. Gillanders, the manager at Momohaki, embodying the results of the experiments refened to, which will lie found in the Seventh Roporb of tho Dapartment of Agriculture, wonld amply rapay any famine who finds a difficulty in selecting the most suitable manures.
