The Daily News. SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 3, 1900. THE BREAKWATER ROAD.

Thanks to the prosibtent efforts of Messrs. Newton King anJ J, B. Oonnett, there is at least Home hupe of the Breakwater lload bang put into thoroughly good order, and handed over to the losal authority. The state of thia road during lihe recent bad weather has been truly awful, and one of the great difficulties was that it waß under no recognised contiol, When Messrs King and Oonnett were in Wellington they interviewed the members of the Government and presented a numerously signed petition asking that the control of the road should be vested in the County Council, and got a promise that the matter should be looked into. When Mr, Oonnett was in Wellington this week, he waited upon the Minister of Ilailways in company with the Minister of Lands, who kindly interested himself in the matter. The Hon, Mr. Ward said the U&binet was about to me9t, and if Mr. Gannett would put what was wanted in writing ho would bring it before the Cabinet, as it would be necetwy to have an Order-in-Uouncil dealing with the matter. Mr. Oonnett poicted out the urgency of repairs being e fleeted at once, as the road m its present cundition was dangeroHS to liio and limb, and he believed the Harbour Board would acG liberally in the mattur ol giving the mesal required from their qairries. Both Mr. Duncan and Mr. Ward expiessed thews-jlvus as willing to do whetu ttiuy could to further the m.ttor, Ou reLurniug to his hetnl, All', Conuotit forwarded the following letter:
