BOWLING.
The New Plymouth Bowling Club opened their sixteenth season on Thursday afternoon, when, in spite of the showery weather, there was a good attendance. The President, Mr, J. Paul, briefly addressed the members, and expressed much pleasure at seeing some of the original members present, particularly Arohdeacon Qovett, whom it was hoped would long be spared to be in their midst. After referring to the changes in the management of the Olub, and giving some practical advice to the new members, he threw the "jack" and formally declared the green open.
A match between the President's and Vice-President's teams was started, but unfortunately a heavy shower of rain put an end to the play before the game was nearly finished. During the play Mrs. Paul dispensed afternoon tea to the visitors in a most hospitable manner, and, but for the weither, the proceedings would have been numbered amongst the most successful of those held on the green, The Town Band very kindly attended and discoursed some very sweet music.
